Coop's first Rail-Trail ride

I hadn't seen Coop in a few days, so I decided we were going to go biking for the first time together this past weekend. I loaded up my bike and his trailer and headed over to the Panhandle Trail. This being the first time using the trailer, it took some time to hook it up. During this time Cooper was not a happy baby...it was hot and he was tired.



Finally we hit the trail.....


Coop was immediately out as you can see.....



The trailer worked pretty good...except for the trail surface (crushed limestone) kept flying up and landing on Coop. He had a few pebbles of sand on him before I realized. No problem....I zipped up the rain gear (clear plastic cover)....and vented the sides. Problem fixed.

We made it about 4 miles before I stopped to take another picture (see below). Coop was still out. Here is were I made my mistake. I decide to mess with some velco on the trailer. I startled Coop out of his deep sleep. He wakes up screaming! and screaming...

and screaming.... after walking with him for about 20 minutes he calms down some....but never really settles. I decide to put him in his trailer and make a run for home. It took about a mile...but he FINALLY stopped screaming and he went back to sleep.

Round two is this weekend. We all are heading to Ohiopyle/Confluence for the weekend. Hopefully things will be better on the Yough Trail.

Smiley Coop, the little traveler

Well Cooper survived his first semi-family vacation (Daddy couldn't make it). He managed to travel by nearly every form of transportation last week, plane, bus, ferry, bike, cab and he did pretty well on all of them. He's become quite the conversationalist as well. He now prefers to lie on his back and stare up at you and talk. He talks and talks and laughs and coos and it's really quite fun to watch these days and honestly I'm happy that he's happy doing something that lets me sit or lie down :)! While we were in Nantucket I was able to meet up with an old friend of mine and Coop was quite fascinated by her 18 month old little girl, Catherine. He also enjoyed the endless amount of walking that we did and took to his Baby Bjorn carrier much better than he has in the past and ended up falling asleep during most of our walking tours of the island. Things got a little tense by the time we left though since he decided not to poop for 4 days and was obviously getting more and more uncomfortable. But he managed to work that one out just in time for our flight home and fortunately only got a smidge of poo on the front of Mommy's only clean shirt :). This weekend we are going to try out camping...wish us luck :)....

Mom, Nanna, Pap, and Cooper left for Nantucket today for a short vacation. I'm stuck at work!

P.S. I know it seems like I'm making it up that Coop doesn't sleep when he's at home with me considering all the pictures we post are him sleeping but really that's the only time I have my hands free to take pictures :).

Cooper and the Country Air

Cooper has been quite the busy baby lately and it appears that there will be no slowing him down. At his 2 month check up on July 9th, he weighed in at a whopping 12 lbs 6oz. His pediatrician claims I'm not over feeding him though and am not setting my child up to become obese at an early age :), but he is in the 70th percentile for his weight. In one month he gained 4 pounds and grew 1 1/2 inches which was not at all surprising since he has grown out of all of his newborn clothes, most of his 0-3 month clothes and is looking comfortable in his 3-6 month clothes.

Throughout my pregnancy everyone kept saying that all babies do is sleep the first few months but that doesn't seem to be the case with our little guy. He loves to take short little teaser cat naps that last maybe 20 minutes and then he wakes up and screams and fusses until I have chosen the correct form of entertainment to occupy him. Then he proceeds to get sleepy, cries for his pacifier or bottle and then takes another teaser nap to start the process all over again. He is most definitely keeping Steve and I very, very, busy and giving us a glimpse into what his activity level will probably be like once he starts being mobile. With all of his activity though we have finally been getting some very lovely smiles which we were anxiously waiting for. Hopefully we'll get some pictures of his smiles soon but for now they are so exciting that we can't bring ourselves to turn our heads long enough to grab the camera. I also started back to work today and so Cooper begins his days with his Nana on the farm for the next month until he starts day care. The last report was that my baby is proving me wrong and has been napping for 4 hours straight, even with Nana poking him. There's someting in that country air.
